The New Orleans Women Artist Collective is working fervently to complete Mandeville House which is soon to become an urban community learning and healing center. In addition, Mandeville House will be the home of the New Orleans Women In the Building Trades (NOWIBT). NOWIBT is partnering with local general contractors and trades people to train and to mentor women who want to apprentice in the building industry. NOWIBT will collaborate with local trades associations and organizations that are committed to recruiting, educating, and mentoring women in the trades.

Mandeville House will soon be the home of the New Orleans Women In the Building Trades, thanks to the generous support of Dalbert Poree’ Construction and the Center for Ethical and Social Justice staff and their volunteers.

NOWAC is reclaiming and nurturing what once was a culturally diverse community created by the people for the people. This grassroots approach to rebuilding the community after Katrina is vital for the stability and the integrity of our mission.

NOWAC’s mission is to assist New Orleans women artists in their journey back home by providing them with the support and resources necessary to restore and sustain their livelihood through the arts, with the encouragement of artists both within and beyond their communities.

NOWAC’s principle objective is to restore New Orleans’ history and culture of the arts prior to Hurricane Katrina. It is our belief that in order to restore New Orleans’ history and cultural contributions to our overall society we can begin by assisting artists in their determination to return home and to their communities.
